So for our IPW project, we went to Marina Barrage. Yup, I know it's one of the many cliche places in Singapore that people would go for an outing. But it's fun still. Ever saw about 10 kites in the sky at once? Yup, that's the place to go.☺
1. THE BARRAGE / MARINABRIDGE
The barrage comprises nine steel crest gates, each 30m long, built across the 350m wide Marina Channel. Besides separating seawater from freshwater, it also acts as a tidal barrier to keep out high tides. The 5m tall steel gates can be lowered during heavy rain so that water from the reservoir can be released into the sea.

2. DRAINAGE PUMPS
Seven vertical-shafts, axial-flow gigantic pumps, with an individual capacity of 40 m cubic/sec, drain excess storm water into the sea when the storm coincides with high tide. Driven by a 1600kW electric motor, they provide a combined pumping capacity of 280m: /sec when all seven pumps are operating. Each pump can empty an Olympic-sized swimming pool in one minute!

3. GREEN ROOF
Landscaped to integrate with the surrounding environment, the Green Roof doubles up as a recreational space, open to public access. It serves as an insulation to lower the temperature of the building.

4. CENTRAL COURTYARD
The hub of numerous water features and plays areas for visitors, young and old, to get in touch with water and soak in all the fun.

5. F&B AND RETAIL OUTLETS
A host of F&B outlets located on the first storey dishes out an exciting dining experience to visitors who yearn for a meal away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The waterfront alfresco dining area overlooks an endless expanse of the sea while the retail outlets are ideal for leisurely shopping.

6. SUSTAINABLE SINGAPORE GALLERY
The Sustainable Singapore Gallery showcases Singapore's efforts and achievements towards environmentally sustainable developments. Located on the second storey, it also illustrates the benefits, significance, operations and workings of the Marina Barrage. A key feature is the panoramic view offered by the viewing decks.

Illuminated by a play of three colours, it symbolises the uncertain state of our present environment.Keep an eye out for the feature wall made entirely from NEWater bottles. NEWater is ultra-clean water that has been treated with advanced membrane technologies to a very high standard. It marks an achievement in Singapore's efforts in becoming self-sufficient in our water supply. Its stringent purification and treatment processes help to ensure we enjoy a sustainable water supply as the recycled water can.

GALLERY 2: A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT
Rewinding back a few decades, Gallery 2 recounts the clean-up of the Singapore and KallangRivers. Through the clean-up spanning ten years, witness Singapore's development from independence towards a mature city practising environmental awareness.

GALLERY 3: WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE
Gallery 3 features the Active, Beautiful, and Clean Waters Programme, launched by PUB in 2007. See the programme in action, as waterways throughout Singapore are revamped and beautified. Discover how these rejuvenated waters bring communities together and forge a common need to cherish this precious liquid. Visitors even have the chance to create their own ideal waterways around their homes!

Along the way,we found the NEWater mascot which is really cute!NEWater was invented in Singapore a few years back then. Why was NEWater invented? It is because:~

-It was to address the increasing water needs of the country and reduce Singapore's reliance on neighbouring countries for her water supply.

-To "recycle" used water in a refinery process

-To increase the water supply in Singapore so that Singapore do not have to buy water from Malaysia which can be quite expensive
The Marina Barrage is a dam in Singapore built across the mouth of the bay, between Marina East and Marina South. It was officially opened on 1 November 2008. It was Singapore's fifteenth reservoir...The idea was first started nearly 20 years ago, when the then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew envisioned damming the Marina Channel to create a freshwater reservoir. And so created Marina Barrage.
